Archaebacteria

Name: Thermus aquaticus
Scientific Name: Thermus aquaticus
Name of Domain: Bacteria
Prokaryote or Eukaryote: Prokaryote
Unicellular or Multicellular: Unicellular
Asexual or Sexual: Both
Autotroph or Heterotroph: Autotroph

Fun Facts

1:At the time of the discovery, it was believed that life could not be sustained at the temperatures that the springs got up to. Thermus aquaticus changed people’s views on the possibilities of life.
2: Thermus aquaticus is one of several thermophilic bacteria that belong to the Deinococcus-Thermus group.
3 (extra): They can survive at extremely high temperatures.

Animalia

Name: Horseshoe Crab
Scientific Name (extra): Limulus polyphemus
Name of Domain: Eukarya
Prokaryote or Eukaryote: Eukaryote
Unicellular or Multicellular: Multicellular
Asexual or Sexual Reproduction: Sexual
Autotroph or Heterotroph: Heterotroph

Fun Facts

1: Despite its name, it is more closely related to spiders, ticks, and scorpions  than to crabs.
2: Four species of horseshoe crabs live in different areas of the Atlantic, Indian, and Pacific oceans.
3 (extra): The Horseshoe Crab has survived millions of years but numbers have started to decline.

Vocabulary

Multicellular: many cells, more than one cell
Unicellular: one cell
Autotroph: can make its own food
Heterotroph: cannot make its own food.
Asexual: reproduction, one parent
Sexual: 2 parents

I think I wrote extra on them all.

Eubacteria

Name: E. coli
Scientific Name: E. coli
Domain: Bacteria
Prokaryote or Eukaryote: Prokaryote
Unicellular or Multicellular: Unicellular
Sexual or Asexual: Asexual
Autotroph or Heterotroph: Heterotroph

Fun Facts

1:E coli lives in your intestines and helps you digest.
2:Beef can contain E. coli because the bacteria often infect cattle.
3 (extra): E. coli is a common type of bacteria that can get into food, like beef and vegetables.

Fungi

Name: Mushroom
Scientific Name (extra): Agaricus campestris
Name of Domain: Eukarya
Prokaryote or Eukaryote: Eukayote
Unicellular or Multicellular: Multicellular
Asexual or Sexual Reproduction: Both
Autotroph or Heterotroph: Heterotroph

Fun Facts

1: Fungi recycle plants after they die and transform them into rich soil. If not for mushrooms and fungi, the Earth would be buried in several feet of debris and life on the planet would soon disappear.
2: Under the right conditions, some mushrooms' spores can sit dormant for decades or even a century, and still grow!
3 (extra): Some of the oldest living mushroom colonies are fairy rings. They can grow so big that their rings can be seen from planes.

Plantae

Name: White Oak
Scientific Name (extra): Quercus Alba
Name of Domain: Eukarya
Prokaryote or Eukaryote: Eukaryote
Unicellular or Multicellular: Multicellular
Asexual or Sexual Reproduction: Sexual
Autotroph or Heterotroph: Autotroph

Fun Facts

1: White oaks usually grow in forest with other oaks, but can be found on edges of lakes, ponds, and streams.
2:  They have male and female flowers.
3: (extra): Leaves of White Oak are 4 to 9 inches long.

Protista

Name: Euglena
Scientific Name (extra): Euglena gracilis
Name of Domain: Eukarya
Prokaryote or Eukaryote: Protista
Unicellular or Multicellular: Unicellular
Asexual or Sexual Reproduction: Asexual
Autotroph or Heterotroph: Both

Fun Facts

1: They are not completely autotrophic. Euglena can also absorb food from their environment.
2: They Usually live in quiet ponds or puddles.
3 (Extra): Euglena move by a moving their flagellum.
